The wax business produces and markets wax and wax related products to commodity and speciality markets globally.

The output of 730 Kt a year includes paraffin waxes and synthetic waxes such as hard waxes, liquid paraffins in the C5 - C20 carbon range, medium waxes and paraffin waxes, both fully and semi-refined.

Our facility in Hamburg, Germany has a production and blending capacity of 300 Kt per annum for paraffin wax. In South Africa, the Sasolburg plant operates Fischer-Tropsch-based technology for the manufacture of synthetic waxes. 26% of our output is derived from this process. In Durban we produce wax blends mainly for the South African candle industry and account for almost 45% of the country's finished product through our factory in Johannesburg.

The wax business serves industries that include agriculture, cosmetics, inks and coatings, paper, polishes and textiles. Product is also used for cable compounding, matches, metal mould releasing, rope dressing and rust preventatives.
